The
NZMTC is based at QEII Stadium in Christchurch New Zealand.
QEII was the home of the 1974 Commonwealth Games and has recently
been extensively redeveloped. Facilities now include a new Olympic
50m pool, a 33m training pool, an all surface running track
and extensive grounds.
The
majority of the NZMTC's sports science facilities are located
on site such as the altitude simulator, lactate testing equipment
and run gait analysis.
About Christchurch
Nicknamed
the Garden City, Christchurch is known for its temperate climate
and stunning scenery. The city is situated on a coastal plain
between the Southern Alps and the Banks Peninsula, formed by
three extinct volcanoes.
Due
to the wide range of local terrain, Christchurch is an ideal
location for the multisport athlete.
Highlights
of what is available within the city:
- Cycling
terrain ranging from the flats of the Canterbury Plains to
the foothills of the local mountains
- A wide
selection of beach, trail and road running routes
- Short
and long course indoor swimming
- Safe,
sheltered open water swimming
- Clean
air, moderate temperatures and limited traffic
As
well, you will find plenty to do exploring Christchurch's restaurants,
museums and other attractions.
With
a population of around 350,000 there is a blend of being big
enough to have all the major facilities you need but small enough
so you can be out of town in a matter of minutes.
