A SUMMARY OF A PRESENTATION ON INTERMITTENT HYPOXIX TRAINING
GIVEN BY DR JOHN HELLEMANS RECENTLY AT THE HONG KONG SPORTS
INSTITUTE please click here
It has been
well established that exposure to the rarefied air which exists
in the mountains brings about changes in the body which improve
performance in athletes. The
only problem is that training and living at altitude is not
available to everyone.
Studies
have shown that you do not have to live at altitude to obtain
the benefits. A 2 to 3 week course of short bursts of exposure
to altitude air (1-2 hours a day) has similar benefits compared
to prolonged stay at an altitude resort.
The NZMTC
has access to an altitude simulation system which has been used
over the last 5 years by various individuals. The 'hypoxicator'
has helped general public with breathing difficulties to the
Olympic Athletes looking for that extra percent.
Cost per
week NZ$80.00 (1st week) $50.00 (follow up weeks)
